Fundamentals of Ayurveda 3 h

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word, which means the science of life. It is the medical model for optimal health developed in India over 5000 years ago and continues to be practiced to this day. It emphasizes living life in balance to maintain or promote optimal well-being. It includes optimal diet and lifestyle choices, yoga, meditation and much more.

Ayurveda is considered to be the mother of allopathic therapies.

This course will explore the basic premise from which ayurveda is based which is ‘Know Thyself’. Understanding your basic nature/constitution will enable you to choose foods and lifestyle practices which promote balance in your life and positively influence your overall well-being. Likewise, this course will enable you to recognize when your constitution goes out of balance and provide you with guidelines on how to gently rebalance yourself from a physical, emotional and psychological perspective.

Course content:

  • The five elements - the building blocks air, space, fire, water and earth
  • The three doshas - Your dosha is your Ayurvedic mind and body type. There are three dohas in Ayurveda:Vata, Pitta and Kapha. We each have all three of the doshas in our physiology, just in different proportions, so your dosha is unique and personal; it is like your fingerprint.
  • You will take an ayurvedic quiz to determine your dosha
  • Prakrti:The constitution you were born with
  • Vikriti: Your present constitution (your present state of balance)
  • Agni: Your digestive fire/metabolism
  • Ama: How toxins accumulate, how to recognize them and what you can do about it
  • Food choices for your constitution
  • Lifestyle choices for your constitution
  • Daily self-massage to increase energy levels and decrease stress
